SCENES
Paradoxically, my sculptures act as both static, fetishized objects as well as stand-ins for emotive bodies. They commingle together in space, creating abstract scenes, as if actors on a stage. Through the use of placement, color, materiality, scale, and form, the scenes playfully explore personal states of being in relation to my physical and psychological surroundings. Each set is treated as a mise en scène, comprised of multiple sculptures arranged on a handmade platform shallowly set against a painted backdrop. The character-like sculptures are simultaneously actors and props—frozen in movement as well as remnants of ritual.
