WORKS ON PAPER

Much like my sculptures, my works on paper bring together disparate found and handmade components. I treat the collage process as a formal exercise - one that uses color, pattern, texture, gesture, and form as a way of conflating the imaginary with the seemingly banal. I tend to think of the resulting collages as emblematic utterances. Coded in the language of formal abstraction, they are laden with metaphorical and personal reference. Often created alongside my sculptures, and titled using parsed words, my collages act as visual clues to the way I fuse formal and conceptual thought processes, providing a key to the ever-evolving lexicon of motifs and symbolic references that I embed within my work.
